The Universities of Benin and Lagos Observatories were set up as part of an International collaboration between the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related matters (NAPTIP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). We also have a working relationship with the Committee of the Support of Dignity of Women (COSUDOW) and the Network for Justice and Democracy.
The two (2) State based Observatories were designed under the Counter Trafficking Initiative: analysis of the evolution of trafficking in persons, grass root social intervention, building social services and networking and promoting direct assistance for sustainable monitoring and evaluation of referral network. The Observatories collect qualitative and quantitative data on problems related to trafficking and the responses at play. IOM’s intervention through the Observatories is systematic with an initial focus on Edo and Lagos States.
The Observatories are funded by the Governments of Italy, Netherlands and Norway, in collaboration with IOM and NAPTIP.
